Katrina Kaif Calls Out: ‘Why Are Female Actors Ignored And Only Male Actors Given Importance On Stage?'
We caught up with Katrina Kaif at Shah Rukh Khan's office on late Saturday evening. We settled down for a quick tete-a-tete. We bring you something which nobody has yet raised or spoken and hats off to Katrina for bringing it to the fore.

She starts off by speaking up on the #MeToo movement, “I think it's very important and I think it's really wonderful and courageous because it's not easy. And let me tell you that even though we know that a lot of women have the backing or the umbrella of the hashtag #MeToo movement, it's still not easy. Women are still facing the shame and the discomfort that comes with speaking up. Let me tell you that it is still not accepted and it's very simple. I'm not saying women are superior or men are superior and I don't think anyone else says, but women should be respected.”

She further addresses a pertinent and very important issue, that will soon become a talking point in the film industry. She says, “Let me tell you something. Recently, I have been part of interviews where I'm sitting with my co-actor who is a male and the interviewer who was a journalist is not even acknowledging me. A, I'm a known face, B, I'm a woman that's fine. Whatever it is that discrimination, I mean we are not talking about sexual discrimination. We actresses feel that a lot. There have been many press conferences where you sit on the dais with a male actor, who maybe a leading superstar that's fine. We all give each other the respect that they deserve but people will not even acknowledge the woman on the platform. I have seen this so many times, in fact I even spoke about this to one of the emcees on the stage that you know at the next press conference I really want to address this because it's uncalled for. It doesn't make any sense to me. It's kind of segregation. It's like a mindset. I don't think even the audience does that, it's just the mindset. I don't think it is intentional. It is just the incidental mindset that there is a male star on-stage, so naturally the female star becomes a little peripheral.”

Finally, she sums it up by saying, “The reason why this is so important in the film industry is because this mindset is what trickles down into the film industry. So, I think this is a good movement and it needs to be used responsibly for sure and I hope that we see changes and the working environment for women continues to become more safer.”

Foor for thought, definitely!
